Privacy policy (POPIA)

This policy explains how Caterings.co.za handles your personal information in line with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). It is written to be read, not to be survived.

What we collect

Only what you actively send us: the fields in a quote request (name, business name, phone number, email address, province, equipment needs, budget and timeframe, plus whatever you write in the message) or the contents of a message you send by phone, WhatsApp or email.

What we do not collect: this website sets no cookies of its own and loads no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking scripts. Server logs may record standard technical data (IP address, pages requested, timestamps) for security and troubleshooting, kept for a limited period.

Why we process it, and the legal basis

We use your information only to respond to your request — to quote, advise, arrange delivery or answer a question — and to provide after-sales service on orders. Processing is based on your request (taking steps at your request before entering a contract) and on our legitimate interest in running the business relationship you initiated. We do not sell personal information and do not share it with third parties for their marketing.

Who receives it

Quote requests and enquiries go to the CaterEra sales team (the team that publishes this site — see the about page). If you contact us via WhatsApp, your message is also processed by WhatsApp (Meta Platforms) under their privacy policies as part of delivering the message. If you email us, your email provider is involved in the same way. Where an order requires it, delivery details are shared with the courier delivering your goods.

Retention & security

Enquiry records are kept only as long as needed to serve you and meet tax and accounting obligations (invoices and related records are retained as required by law). We protect personal information with access controls limited to staff who need it to do their jobs. In the unlikely event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.

Your rights

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate information.
  • Request deletion of your information (subject to legal retention duties).
  • Object to processing, or withdraw consent where processing was based on consent.
  • Complain to the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za) if you believe your rights were not respected.

Use any right by emailing info@caterera.co.za — we respond within a reasonable time as the Act requires.

Children & changes

This site and our services are directed at businesses and adults; we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. We may update this policy as our practices or the law change — the current version is always on this page with its revision date below.
